STT-IWS are complex IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units), their boards including several modules and sensors, each with a specific mission. The measurement of physical variables is performed by certain set of ‘primary sensors’ inside the IMU:
3-axial gyroscope operating at ±2000 deg/s and with up to 400 Hz sample rate.
3-axial low-noise accelerometer working at ±16g and with up to 400 Hz sample rate.
3-axial magnetometer with operating range ±1300 μT.
Barometric pressure sensor with range 300 to 1100 hPa.
Synchronization: A key factor in order to achieve high-quality data for biomechanics. All measurements are automatically timestamped in order to guarantee an actual synchronization. The sync is ultimately handled and guaranteed by the Wi-Fi network.
Enhanced Accuracy: Additional sensors and indicators are used to calibrate the measurements acquired by the primary sensors to increase the accuracy:
Communication Interfaces:
Drift Correction: An on-board AHRS sensor fusion algorithm combines inertial and magnetic readings to minimize drift and provide an orientation relative to Earth. Each device is individually calibrated using robotic equipment to achieve the highest accuracy.
Power: The STT-IWS can be powered in three different ways: with its own internal battery, with the USB connector, or with an external power supply.
